Social Media Anxiety

I don’t have time.

I’m not creative enough.

I’m not sure where to even begin?

No one cares what I have to say or share.

Did I mention…I don’t have time.

That’s just a small sampling of what I hear from entrepreneurs and business leaders at my social media workshops.

And let me clue you in on something: You do, you are and we’re here to help.

Would you believe me if I told you I am a HIGHLY ANXIOUS, reserved and shy person? That is at least until I get to know you…

Yup, me, your local social media guru. Your gal with 10+ years of marketing, PUBLIC relations and public speaking experience, is shy. Yet, social media networking is where I shine.

I get it. There’s a lot to be nervous about, especially when it comes to branding yourself or your biz. And the more conservative your industry and key clientele, the harder it can be to shake those fears of doing, saying or posting the wrong thing.

But I’ve worked in or with ALL industries (healthcare, home audio & consumer electronics, real estate, green beauty, retail, food services, wedding, etc.) and guess what, they’ve all seen SUCCESS with social media marketing. Their content, voice and strategies were all different, but the outcome was the same:

Visibility.

Increased share of voice.

Engagement.

Feedback.

Growth + sales.

All made possible because they put their trust into the process and overcame fear.

So how can you overcome your social media anxiety and use platforms like Facebook and Instagram to up-level your business? Let’s start with a few strategies to help stamp out resistance!

  1. Make the time, not the excuses.

Social media marketing & networking should be fun, it' is called SOCIAL for a reason! It does take time though, which means building it into your daily schedule. Whether you block off time on your calendar for posting, idea generation, responding & engaging, etc. make sure you set aside a dedicated portion of your day to plan and curate. Content calendars help! Creating a monthly editorial calendar can take the stress off of the ‘what do I even share'?’ mindset. Need help creating a content calendar? Contact us.

  2. Forget rejection

It’s not all about YOU anyway! Ideally if you’re using Instagram for business you should be focused on putting out ideas, information and opportunities that add value for your target audience. That doesn’t mean we don’t want to see your face too though! Working in behind-the-scenes and personality posts allow you to humanize your brand and business, so get comfortable with the idea that you are an important part of your content mix.

  3. Less is more, quality of quantity

Not everything needs to be shared. Wait, what? Yup, you heard right…not everything NEEDS or even deserves to be shared. Your focus should always be on QUALITY. Quality images, quality captions and quality ideas that add real value to your social community. There’s that ‘value’ buzz word again! Make sure what you post truly is your best work and the best representation of your brand/biz/services. This takes some fine-tuning, but paying close attention to your analytics will provide much needed insight as to what posts are resonating best with your fans and followers.
